Viewer Crashes with AdBlock Plus Firefox Plugin

Hi There. Trying to use your site for the first time, I get the viewer window up and a chap jumping up and down but then after a few seconds it says the viewer has crashed. It then restarts and I see the grid but then just keeps on crashing. I using latest FireFox on a windows 7 64bit machine with all updates, Ati 4870 with latest 9.9 drivers. Is this a known issue?

    Hi Chris,

Thanks a lot for the problem report. We do not officially support Windows 7 just yet, but we are working on it! I can not give you a release date just yet, but will update this thread as soon as we have it.

Do you have an XP, Vista, or Mac OS machine to try the Mixamo.com meanwhile?

Hey Chris, thanks for the note, sorry for the troubles. I am the engineer responsible for our 3D viewer.

A couple of things about this issue:

    1. As Matt mentioned, we haven't actually tested Mixamo with Windows 7 yet. We should be getting our fresh new copy in the mail tommorrow. :) We will have more Windows 7 compatibility specific information in the next couple of days.
    2. The fact that you see 3D at all is a good thing though. We are probably not dealing with a hard incompatibilty.
    3. There are a few log files which will help us diagnose these crashes, specifically:

(I believe these are the directories that Windows 7 uses, I know they have changed from XP to Vista, let me know if you can't find them):

    C:\Users\YOUR_USER_NAME
    C:\Users\YOUR_USER_NAME\.animotion\logs
    #46;animotion\logs

this directory contains logs files that our application creates, and

    C:\Users\YOUR_USER_NAME\AppData\Local\Temp

this directory contains a lot of files. We are interested in the ones named

    hs_err_pidXXXX.log

Where XXXX is some numbers. These are log files Java creates when it crashes. Look for the ones dated around when the crashes happened.

If you can send the files mentioned from those two locations to support AT mixamo DOT com, I will take a look so that we can resolve this.

  • Chris,

From that one log file, I don't see any signs of actual crashes. What I do see though, it the viewer is shutting down in 2 seconds. Understandably, it would seem like a crash. I've not seen this before. Perhaps the 3D window disappears for some reason so you hit (which would explain the log files). It doesn't seem like a Windows 7 issue. I guess it could be a graphics card issue, but 3D works before disappearing, DLLs get loaded fine, DirectX inits...

Can you try viewing the applet on this page:

    http://www.java.com/en/download/help/...

is there any flickering or weirdness that you see here? It should display a little animation and the detected version of Java.

Also, could you send over any new log files from your c:\Users\USERNAME\.animotion\logs to see if the symptoms are the same in your latest viewer attempts.

Also, if you get a chance, can you try it in IE as well and see if the behavior is the same.
    Appreciate the help troubleshooting this.

    cheers,
    eric

    Hi Eric

Ok had a play and after checking that link that worked fine and ie8 which
worked fine and then firefox in safe mode that worked fine as well I assumed
it must be one of my addons for firefox that was somehow clasing with your
site, and it does seem that if I turn of adblock plus then all is fine. Not
sure why that would cause an issue as looking at the list of items on your
page it isnt blocking any of them. So anyway upshot is it works fine now but
in case you get any other people getting the 'Doh, the Mixamo viewer
crashed' pink screen you can maybe have a solution to offer. Off to try out
    your site now :)

    Thanks for your time.

  • Chris,

Nice detective work. That makes sense. The adblock software might identify applets, hide them, and hiding them would start the shutdown events I was noticing.

    Thanks Chris! Appreciate it.

    cheers,
